Helping Cambridgeshire Scouts climb their way to South Korea

30 young people from Cambridgeshire Scouts took on the Mountain Climbing Challenge at Clip ‘n Climb Cambridge. The challenge was to help raise funds to attend the 2023 World Scout Jamboree in Korea

The group were split into 3 teams – Red, Blue and Black to match the colours of the Korean flag. The target for each team was to climb the equivalent height of Mount Hallasan, the highest mountain in South Korea, standing at a dizzying 1,950 metres. To do this they had to reach the top of the walls at Clip ‘n Climb Cambridge 325 times.

With over 20 different climbing walls to scale at Clip ‘n Climb Cambridge, the Scouts could choose easier routes on walls such Big Cheese and Twister, or the toughest way to the top on walls like Orbital and Triffid.

All teams completed the challenge, with Team Red reaching the summit first.

Two prizes awarded on the night courtesy of Mountain Warehouse

  • Fastest speed climb of the night which was done in 4.33 seconds
  • The climber who was judged to have most overcome their fears and given the challenge their all

With some scouts raising over £400 each, Cambridgeshire Scouts have estimated that almost £10,000 was raised from the event, helping their scouts climb their way to South Korea!

A parent of one of those taking part, Valerie Sills, who helped organise the event said:

I wanted to say thank you again for hosting our Scouts for the Sponsored Climb on Wednesday. It went really well, everyone had fun and they smashed it! Also, just to say, your staff were fab – very happy, friendly, welcoming, helpful and certainly knew what they were doing! A credit to you!

Climbing is the ultimate fun and healthy activity for you to enjoy with your friends, family or group. Our centre makes for a great venue for fundraising activities so if you have a sky high fundraising target to reach.  Find out more about running your own Mountain Challenge.
