Brand new after-school club at Clip 'n Climb Cambridge
NICAS® Wild Climbers is the new after-school club at Clip ‘n Climb Cambridge. Suitable for 4-11year olds, NICAS® Wild Climbers is a fun, safe, inclusive way for primary age children to be introduced to climbing, learning new skills through fun games, and making new friends.
NICAS® Wild Climbers replaces our long-running Rock Stars after-school club.
Your child can follow a structured programme, using the Wild Climbers log books. Working with our friendly climbing team, they will work towards stickers and badges, whilst building on their climbing skills. Each session is 60 minutes.
Incorporating skills for all, the fun game-filled programme is designed to be accessible to a wide range of abilities, and the resources encourage inclusivity for all participants, including those with additional needs.
Clip ’n Climb Cambridge offers an ongoing course that covers six skill levels per term, in three stages. The complete course can be completed over a year, but you can also sign up for either half term, term or single sessions.
NICAS® (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme) is The Association of British Climbing Walls Training Trust (ABCTT®), a small educational charity who deliver progressive incentive schemes that provide a gateway from indoor climbing into a pathway of life-long participation in rock climbing and mountaineering.
Benefits
Throughout the scheme are six different animals representing six skill areas, and these can each be individualised to climbers when setting personal goals based on their confidence and ability.
While working through the stages, learners will develop awareness of climbing movements, learn teamwork and communication skills, and grow in confidence.
Throughout the stages, climbers will be rewarded with stickers to recognise their achievements and make them feel proud of what they have achieved, fitting with our centre motto. Badges for each stage are also available to purchase for an additional £1.80.
Wild Climbers meets the 3 key learning areas of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) and includes Communication, Physical Development, and Social & Emotional Development.
Sessions
NICAS Wild Climbers will run Thursdays during term time from 5-6pm.
Half Term 1: 10th September - 22nd October (7 weeks)
Half Term 2: 5th November - 10th December (6 weeks)
*If you sign up for the full term there will be a one-week break for the October Half Term Holiday.
The programme is instructor led, and therefore we anticipate that parents will not be on the arena. However, our younger climbers and those with additional needs may feel more comfortable with their adult on the arena.
Please note that if your child is under 13 years old you will have to stay in the centre, you can enjoy our café or use the working facilities overlooking the arena with free Wi-Fi.
Prices
Session pricing:
Pay for the full term (£130) and get the Wild Climber logbook and folder FREE. Resources last 3 terms of NICAS Wild Climbers.
Pay for the half term (£70) plus a one off payment of £16.50 required for the logbook and folder. Resources last 3 terms of NICAS Wild Climbers.
Pay per session at £15 per climber. Logbook and folder not included but is available to purchase.
Additional costs:
Animal badges – £1.80. Pay as each skill set is achieved.
Logbook £12.90 (chargeable to pay per session climbers*)
Logbook folder £3.60 (chargeable to pay per session climbers*)
*Pay per session climbers are not required to purchase the logbook or the folder but it is highly recommended for your climber to be able to track their progress and rewards. It is also easier for your climber to visualise each completed stage.
