The team at Clip ‘n Climb Cambridge was really pleased to welcome Febby for her work experience placement in July. Febby, a Year 12 student at Cambourne Village College, worked in the centre over five days, finding out more about our Front of House and Climbing Operations.
Febby states,
I chose Clip ’n Climb for work experience because I thought it would be a unique experience, and not only that, but I also knew it would be a great place to gain knowledge and understanding of how such a large and successful establishment operates, as it handles a wide range of activities.
Even though I struggled a bit at the start, it got easier with consistent help and support from the staff, and as the days went by, I became more confident working in reception.
Throughout the week, I had to learn and assist in reception by checking people in, responding to emails, and attempting to answer phone calls. I also assisted people in the arena with clipping on and off, and operated the Vertical Drop Slide for all the climbers. I found it fun to talk to the little kids and teens about their favourite climbing obstacles while I helped them clip off.
Some skills I learned included communication skills, IT skills, and working in the arena, as well as discussing the staff's experiences with them. Overall, I am very grateful for this opportunity and hope that other students will have the chance to gain work experience here.
Beth Walthew, one of the Owners at Clip ‘n Climb Cambridge, stated,
It was lovely to have Febby with us throughout the week. The team really enjoyed working with her, and it was great to have her support at reception and on the climbing arena.
It’s the 8th year that we have welcomed work experience students at Clip ‘n Climb Cambridge, and it’s always great to show people the workings of a company that they might have visited as a customer many times.
